On the night before her wedding, Tessa Bell carries a warm meal to her fiancé Daniel's apartment, hoping to share one quiet moment before the big day. The gateman, who knows her and respects her as "madam," opens the gate with a smile. Through the bedroom window she sees Daniel in bed with her best friend Lila. Tessa doesn't go in, doesn't scream, and doesn't let them know she was there. She walks out past the gateman, smiling, and decides to let the wedding go ahead. In front of two hundred guests, with Lila sitting among them, Tessa stops at the vows and tells everyone what he did. Daniel is disgraced and his friends turn on him. But the win doesn't feel like one. Tessa moves in with her two closest friends, Nadia and Brooke, and sinks into months of misery. She can't sleep, eat, or work, while Daniel begs at her door and strangers online take sides. Her friends try everything to pull her out, from movie nights to forced walks, and finally drag her to a party. There she meets Theo Marsh, a calm stranger she treats coldly on purpose. He doesn't push, and he doesn't leave. Slowly, against her will, she lets him in. But Daniel isn't finished. To save his name, he tells everyone that Tessa cheated first and that Theo was the other man. Tessa pushes Theo away to protect him, and her misery returns harder than before. With her friends beside her and proof in her hands, she faces Daniel one last time. She must decide whether punishing a cheater was ever the point, or whether she can let herself be loved again.
